Kingston and Richmond Youth Council - Sexual harassment survey

0%

1. Introduction

The Kingston and Richmond Youth Council is passionate about making change and listening to the voices of other young people. This survey is to gather data to establish if young women are experiencing sexual harassment in their school or college.

This survey is for young women who live or go to secondary school or college in Kingston or Richmond. We have decided to target this survey at girls because it is clear that women and girls are disproportionately affected by sexual harassment - and it is a specific focus and priority for the Youth Council. We do, of course, acknowledge that sexual harassment impacts both men and women

The survey is completely anonymous.

When we refer to sexual harassment in our survey, we are referring to the following:
Unwanted verbal or physical behaviour of a sexual nature. It can make a person feel intimidated, degraded or humiliated and creates an uncomfortable or offensive environment.

It can include the following:
  • someone making sexually degrading comments or gestures
  • being stared or leered at
  • being subjected to sexual jokes or propositions
  • email or text messages with sexual content
  • physical behaviour, including unwelcome sexual advances and touching
  • someone displaying sexually explicit pictures (an example of this would be a picture of someone naked or a picture showing sexual parts of someone’s body) in your space or a shared space, such as school or work
  • offers of rewards in return for sexual favours
However, we’re aware that this may not cover all experiences, so if you believe you’ve been sexually harassed not in one of the ways stated above, please tell us. Your voice and experience are important to us.

This survey is anonymous and does not collect any personally identifiable information about you, unless you choose to disclose it. The information collected will be provided in an anonymised form to Achieving for Children to help create change in schools/colleges in terms of safety policies.

This survey is not the place to report incidents, but if you tell us something in this survey which we believe is a safeguarding issue, we will pass this to the appropriate team in Achieving for Children.

The survey will close on 16 July 2021.
